Dr Maggy Heintz has been appointed the new director of ���ճԹ� International Geoscience and will be based at the organisation’s headquarters in Keyworth, Nottinghamshire. She will lead a global team with a track record of projects across Europe, Africa, South-east Asia and Latin America, to support the objectives of the UK Government.

I am looking forward to joining ���ճԹ� and to playing my part in harnessing the power of geoscience to tackle pressing global challenges. I believe passionately in the impact of earth sciences when delivered through true partnerships with our international partners.

Maggy arrives at ���ճԹ� following her work as executive director of the UK Collaborative on Development Research (UKCDR), an organisation that analyses UK funding trends and practices in research for international development. She previously spent eight years at the University of Leicester as international research development manager and as head of research and business development. She has also worked in the UK’s French Embassy as a science attaché, stimulating international collaboration between the UK and France.

I am delighted at the appointment of Maggy as the new director of ���ճԹ� International Geoscience. Her experience and expertise in global projects will be invaluable in driving our international research programme and delivering global stakeholder engagement and research that aligns with ���ճԹ�’s core values and UK priorities.

Maggy succeeds Dr David Schofield, who left ���ճԹ� in October 2024 after 27 years with the organisation.

On behalf of ���ճԹ� and the ���ճԹ� Board, I would like to recognise the efforts of Kathryn Goodenough and Helen Fallas in leading the work of the ���ճԹ� International Geoscience team since David’s departure.

���ճԹ� has more than 100 years of experience in international collaboration and carries out commissioned research as part of its International Geoscience Research and Development programme.
